Welcome to the "Friends of HSR"  website

Main Gate at HSRThis site is for anyone interested in running a Troop camp at Haliburton Scout Reserve -- the greatest of all Scout Camps..

Whether you're just thinking about camping with your Troop for the first time, or if you're a seasoned veteran of many happy campfires on one of the lakes, explore these pages for new ideas.

.

What we want to do

  • supplement the official HSR site with even more practical information for Scout Leaders so you can run a successful Troop camp
  • provide ideas for that "other 75% of the time" when YOU are in charge of the Troop -- for meals, accomodation and program activities
  • suggest how you can take advantage of the 'semi-wilderness' experience that is HSR for some real Adventures.
  • help you use the week at HSR to accomplish many of the objectives of Scouting.

BP's Drawing of "House in the Woods"At HSR you can accomplish more with your Scouts in 1 week than in years of meetings back at the group's hall

  • Really implement the Patrol System so the Scouts can learn to make decisions, take responsibility and work together.
  • Get to know your Scouts as individuals, each with unique personalities, strengths and weaknesses.   Help them grow.
  • Build self confidence, self reliance, as well as Patrol and Troop spirit.
  • Actually put some of those Scoutcraft skills to use

Contributors to this website have many years of experience at HSR behind them (and hopefully many more ahead!), and want to share their knowledge with you.

Join us by sharing your experiences of HSR with others -- send us an e-mail
